건강과 의학 관련 직업에 종사하는 사람들이 늘어나고 있지만 의학용어에 대한 발음은 현재 통일되어 있지 않아서 어떻게 읽어야 할지 난감할 때가 많습니다.

뿐만아니라 의학용어에도 점차 우리말 사용이 늘고 있어서 예전에 사용하던 한자어 위주의 의학용어를 공부한 사람들은 우리말 의학용어가 익숙하지 않아서 많이 혼란스럽습니다.

우리나라의 의학용어는 의사협회의 의학용어위원회가 발간하는 의학용어집을 기준으로 하고 있으나 각종 교과서나 사전과는 시차가 있습니다.

대한의사협회 의학용어위원회 의학용어집은 현재 제6판까지 발간되었습니다.
